Freiburg announced on Thursday the contract extension of Nicolas Höfler. As is always the case with SCF, the length of the extension is undisclosed. The 32-year-old has spent every season at Freiburg bar one, when he spent a year on loan at Erzgebirge Aue
Speaking to the club website, Höfler said: “I’ve been at this club for so long and feel so comfortable that extending was the only option, when you look at what we’ve achieved on the pitch these past few years, it really is a lot of fun. I want to carry on down this path.”
Höfler has been a key piece of Freiburg’s rise having played 215 games for them in the Bundesliga and 33 times for them in the 2. Bundesliga. Only Christian Günter and Andreas Zeyer have played more games for Freiburg than Höfler.
This season Höfler has played in all but one of Freiburg’s games this season, scoring in the Europa League and assisting in the Bundesliga. Remarkably, Freiburg find themselves second and just four points behind leaders Bayern Munich. SCF face Wolfsburg on January 21 in their first Bundesliga game following the World Cup and winter break.
