Fresh William Saliba future claim emerges at the Emirates – GiveMeSport

Arsenal star Bukayo Saka is more likely to sign a new contract than William Saliba, claims journalist Paul Brown.

The north London club are trying to get both players to put pen to paper on extensions, but Brown says he has heard less talk about the latter and there is more of a question mark over his future.

What is the latest news involving Saliba and Saka?

Last month, 90min reported that Arsenal are eager for Saliba, Saka and Gabriel Martinelli to sign new deals at the Emirates.

The trio are out of contract in 2024, explaining the above, though they do have the option to extend Martinelli’s existing deal by another 12 months.

While nothing has been officially signed yet, Saliba has confirmed that talks over an extension have indeed started.

“We will see. They talk a little bit. We will see,” the French centre-back was recently quoted as saying by The Athletic when asked about a new contract.

What has Brown said about Saliba, Saka and Arsenal?

Brown says he has not heard too much about Saliba putting pen to paper on a fresh deal and has suggested that Saka is more likely to extend his stay at the Emirates than the former Saint-Etienne man.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “Saliba, I hear less about him and his contract. He has only just got in the team.

“Arsenal probably think there’s less of a need to get that done so quickly, but he obviously did look around in the summer and consider his future, so there is more of a question mark probably with him and his contract than there is with Saka I would think.”

Will Saliba sign a new contract at Arsenal?

There are obviously no guarantees, but it is hard to imagine a scenario where Saliba chooses to run down his existing deal.

Arsenal are flying under Mikel Arteta right now, sitting first in the Premier League table, and he is getting game time at the Emirates.

In fact, in the top flight, the 21-year-old has been ever-present, starting all 10 of the Gunners’ fixtures so far.

Barcelona were reportedly interested in Saliba during the summer. If the La Liga outfit make it clear that they want to sign him, perhaps that could prevent him from extending his contract at the Emirates.

But again, with the direction that Arsenal are heading in and the fact that the France international is likely to get a significant pay rise given his importance to the team, you would expect him to remain in north London.
