Speaking ahead of Bayern Munich’s DFB Pokal game against Augsburg on Wednesday evening, Julian Nagelsmann has stated that there’s still room for improvement after Sunday’s impressive 5-0 win against Freiburg in the Bundesliga.
“Freiburg’s game was a benchmark for us,” said Nagelsmann. “We were incredibly disciplined. We played very good football and we also defended with passion but there’s always room for improvement. The point of perfection can never be reached.”
Sven Ulreich will start in goal again following Manuel Neuer’s shoulder injury. Nagelsmann added: “Manu is still in pain. The target is the weekend’s game against Hoffenheim but we will have to wait and see. He will complete parts of team training on Thursday and then we will see how his shoulder reacts.”
With a muscular problem, Nagelsmann also confirmed that Noussair Mazraoui will travel but will undergo a late fitness test. Thomas Müller will start on the bench and Leroy Sané is sidelined with a hamstring injury.
“Leroy’s injury is annoying,” said Nagelsmann. “He never has muscle injuries but unfortunately with the rhythm that we have you aren’t completely immune to it.”
