Liverpool ahead of Chelsea in race to sign Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott

Liverpool are in a strong position to beat Chelsea to the signing of Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, according to the Daily Mail.

The Cherries are now open to selling the England international in January, surprisingly reversing their decision to keep key players until next summer.

They are prepared to sell Scott if their Premier League status looks secure and suitors offer around £100 million.

Chelsea have been the most persistent admirers of the 23-year-old, submitting several bids for his signature.

Their highest offer (worth around £68m) was rejected during the summer window.

However, Liverpool’s interest is genuine, and Bournemouth believe the Merseyside club could have an advantage in the race.

The Reds are currently led by former Cherries boss Andoni Iraola, who has worked with the player, and it is a major factor.

It remains to be seen whether they would be willing to meet Bournemouth’s high valuation.

Liverpool need to address their midfield issues over the coming months. Alexis Mac Allister has yet to agree a new contract.

Meanwhile, Ryan Gravenberch is dealing with a dip in form, and Curtis Jones left without a proper replacement.

Scott bolstered his reputation with his performances for England during the recent international break.

Liverpool must now weigh whether the midfielder represents value for money at £100m, particularly with his Bournemouth contract set to expire in 18 months from January.

He is also out with an injury and may not regain full fitness until the window officially opens. His fitness record will concern the Anfield hierarchy.

Also, Chelsea were willing to invest heavily in Scott and might not balk at his price tag like the Reds. Bournemouth will encourage a bidding war between the two clubs.

Interestingly, Liverpool are also monitoring Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, who has attracted Chelsea’s interest, giving the Reds another option if a deal for Scott is too expensive.
