Manchester United have reportedly held internal talks over the possible appointment of manager Roberto Martinez, who is expected to leave Portugal after the World Cup, according to GIVEMESPORT correspondent Ben Jacobs.
The Red Devils are already working on appointing a new manager in the summer after only bringing in Michael Carrick on a deal until the end of the season.
United now have plenty of time to complete a thorough process and find the ideal candidate to steer them in the right direction.
There is a chance that Carrick is currently throwing his hat into the ring to be appointed on a permanent basis, with United winning five games out of six under his tutelage, drawing the other.
Man Utd Hold Talks for New Manager
Speaking on The United Stand YouTube channel, Jacobs has confirmed that United have held internal talks over potentially appointing Martinez this summer.
The current Portugal national team manager is expected to move on after the World Cup.
Martinez has been involved in international football for around 10 years now, managing Belgium before his move to Portugal. It’s been a long time since he managed at club level, previously being in charge of Everton in 2016.
Ronaldo Gives Seal of Approval
Former Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo recently spoke publicly about Martinez, and what he said might excite the supporters at Old Trafford. The Portuguese legend said that he is ‘confused’ why people question Martinez, labelling his record as ‘spectacular’ and ‘extraordinary’.
“If a coach reaches the final, it is because he has done an excellent job. Questioning someone who has a spectacular record for Portugal makes me confused, but I understand. If a coach gets to the final and he is questioned, imagine the others. There has been a bit of a lack of respect in this regard. Talking about other coaches is a lack of sense, but the coach has done an extraordinary job.”
