Crystal Palace are already preparing for life without captain Marc Guehi, and have begun the process of identifying his replacement in 2026.
The England international was on the brink of a move to Newcastle United two years ago, before a move to Liverpool collapsed at the last minute on deadline day last summer, with the Eagles instead opting to keep hold of him in the final year of his contract.
Guehi is now expected to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season, and the south London club are looking at Serie A for his potential replacement.
Crystal Palace Eyeing Kossounou
Oliver Glasner has already made it clear to the board that he was unhappy about the summer transfer business, and has called on the club to bring in a new forward during the January window.
But it has also now emerged, according to TEAMtalk, that the club are eyeing a move for Atalanta defender Odilon Kossounou after his excellent start to life in Serie A.
The Ivory Coast international joined from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer and has been a key factor in their success this season, featuring on 14 occasions. The 24-year-old, who has been described as ‘sensational’, has been watched closely by Palace transfer chiefs this season.
Crystal Palace Need to Keep Glasner Happy
While the future of Guehi is all but decided at this point, with a summer exit inevitable at the latest, there are still major question marks over the future of manager Glasner.
The Austrian is out of contract at the end of the season too, and so far there has been no progress over a new deal to tie him to Selhurst Park, while there have been links with some top jobs around Europe.
If they want to convince him that he is in the right place, they need to show ambition and keep him happy, and that starts with strengthening his squad in the transfer window to help take the team to the next level. Glasner has already delivered on his end, winning the FA Cup, Community Shield and going on a record-breaking unbeaten run.
Now it’s time for Steve Parish and Crystal Palace to show him they believe in him and want to get even better.
