Leeds Star Gabriel Gudmundsson Picks Up Injury for Sweden

Leeds United defender Gabriel Gudmundsson missed training with Sweden on Thursday as a ‘safety measure’ after seemingly picked up an injury on international duty, according to Fotboll Skanalen.

Sweden are preparing to face Switzerland in World Cup qualifying on Saturday, before they host Slovenia next week as they aim to climb off the bottom of Group B. Gudmundsson was likely to be involved for Graham Potter’s side, starting in each of Sweden’s last two games back in October.

The 26-year-old has been an impressive signing for Daniel Farke’s side after arriving in the summer transfer window from Lille. The Swedish international has gone on to become a regular in the starting XI, starting all 11 games in the Premier League for Leeds this season.

According to Swedish outlet Fotboll Skanalen, Gudmundsson missed training on Thursday due to injury, with omission being labelled as a ‘safety measure’. Gudmundsson missed their session due to ‘a feeling’, and Sweden have clearly decided not to risk him aggravating the potential injury. Thankfully for Leeds supporters, it doesn’t appear to be something too serious.

Sweden’s press officer has spoken on Gudmundsson’s issue, confirming that there is an individual plan for him…

He has a little feeling. It is a safety measure. There is an individual plan for him. Only the medical team can answer that [whether he will train tomorrow].”

It’s certainly a blow for Sweden as they prepare for two crucial games in their efforts to qualify for the World Cup. Whether it’s a blow for Leeds remains to be seen, as the severity of the injury is yet to be confirmed, but it doesn’t sound like it should be something to be overly concerned about.
