Man United fall behind rivals in Dusan Vlahovic race

Manchester United’s forward planning this summer has been under intense scrutiny.

After investing heavily in attacking talent, the club seem to be missing an opportunity, letting potential recruits slip through their fingers.

Chief among these is Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, a player many believe could deliver the goals United so sorely need.

While United are interested in bringing Vlahovic to Old Trafford next year, when his contract runs down and he becomes a free agent, they have made no meaningful progress in getting close to sealing a deal, according to Teamtalk.

Vlahovic, the Serbia international, has endured a somewhat mixed spell at Juventus. Since joining from Fiorentina in January 2022, he has scored 62 goals in 150 appearances.

He has had spells on the fringes but has also shown that when match fitness and form come together, he has the capability to perform.

Part of the reason progress has been slow is mounting competition. Clubs like Chelsea, Tottenham and Newcastle United are reportedly keeping tabs on Vlahovic, and could be poised to make offers when the time is right.

Even West Ham United have been mentioned, though given their squad situation and current form, any move remains less probable.

Should the Red Devils sign a new striker?

The Red Devils are undecided at the moment where to chase the Juventus attacker. They have already invested a lot of money in new attacking signings.

The summer transfer window saw players like Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo arrive at the club.

Do they need a new striker while also having Joshua Zirkzee on the bench? The advantage in signing Vlahovic would be that the player would be available as a free agent but that would work against new signing Sesko as it would affect his playing time at the club.

More than a new attacker, the Red Devils need a midfielder in the team, somebody who can provide them stability in the middle and offer support going forward.
