Southampton have agreed personal terms with 1. FC Heidenheim winger Leo Scienza, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Negotiations between the two clubs are still ongoing, but a transfer is considered likely.
A price tag of around €6 million has been floated for the 26-year-old Brazilian, who is under contract at Heidenheim until 2027.
Borussia Mönchengladbach have also been linked with Scienza, but now appear to be out of the running.
With this move, the Saints are on course to make their second signing from Germany in the final days of the transfer window, as Caspar Jander from 1. FC Nürnberg is also close to joining the English Championship side.
Update (22:07 CET): According to Sky Germany, the two clubs are far apart in their negotiations, with their report claiming that Heidenheim are holding out for €10 million after rejecting an initial bid of €3 million.
