Mainz have announced the contract extension of Nelson Weiper until 2029.
“Nelson is not only an outstanding talent with undisputed athletic qualities, but above all a true Mainz native,” said M05 Sporting Director Christian Heidel. “He was born there and is wholeheartedly committed. Nelson identifies with the club, the city and his hometown. We are delighted that he is now committing to Mainz for four more years, where he began playing football 13 years ago.”
Weiper – who excelled at this summer’s European U21 Championship – is regarded as one of the hottest attacking talents in Germany, with his performances attracting interest from Premier League clubs.
“Mainz is the right step for me,” added Weiper. “I feel very comfortable here. It’s a perfect fit for me both athletically and personally. The management and the coach have confidence in me, and I want to repay that trust on the pitch.
“I was born in Mainz, love this city and the club, and I’m very happy to continue playing in front of my family, friends and the outstanding fans.”
Weiper has scored five goals and provided two assists in 41 competitive appearances for M05.
