Jake Paul Puts Canelo & Crawford on Blast For ‘Goofy’ Dinner Date

Jake Paul has ripped into two of the world’s best boxers, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Terence Crawford, over an apparent dinner date they had just hours before they held a press conference Friday to officially confirm their pound-for-pound boxing clash at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Saturday, the 13th of September.

Canelo and Crawford have been linked with one another for at least a year. And, since boxing’s chief financier Turki Alalshikh developed a relationship with both fighters, it always appeared a foregone conclusion that the Saudi Arabian visionary would pair them together for a high-stakes showdown that will air on Netflix to a potentially massive worldwide audience. To make things even bigger, Alalshikh appointed UFC boss Dana White as the promoter.

However, this week, a “goofy” photographed surfaced of Canelo, Crawford, and Alalshikh all having dinner together, raising concerns that they were too friendly when they should be getting ready to fight one another.

A fight involving Canelo and Crawford brings together two of the sport’s finest operators into one ring, as, in one corner, you have the undisputed super middleweight champion who has boxed at an elite level for more than a decade, fighting the likes of Floyd Mayweather, Gennadiy Golovkin, and Caleb Plant. In the other corner, there is Crawford, renowned for the all-time great thrashing he handed to Errol Spence Jr.

But the photograph, according to Paul — and others, who shared a similar sentiment on X — the photograph spoils the fantasy that these guys want to fight one another. What’s more, he said, is that rivals in other sports would never do such a thing until after the event.

“That’s some goofy s***,” said Paul.

“Imagine Messi and Ronaldo grabbing dinner before a legit match against each other.”

Alalshikh, though, announced at Friday’s presser that there is an incentive to fight hard and fast. The event organizer blasted other fighters earlier this month for what he described as “Tom and Jerry” boxing in which all one fighter does is run around the ring, failing to engage his opponent.

For Canelo and Crawford’s fight, and, most likely, other key events going forward, Alalshikh is offering a UFC-style knockout bonus which a winning fighter will receive should they finish their opponent.
