Mainz became the first team to beat Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga this season, winning 2-1 in impressive fashion.
Speaking to Kicker after the game, Mainz coach Bo Henriksen was naturally delighted.
“We were really good tactically, we were there and that’s important when you play against Bayern Munich,” Henriksen said, praising his team.
As solid as Mainz were at the back, Henriksen didn’t want to rely on defence alone, as he had announced before the game.
“If you only defend against Bayern, you will die a slow death,” said the Mainz coach.
“If you’re there, if you’re calm and courageous, then it’s possible,” he continued.
“I think the most important thing in football is to have the courage to have the ball.”
