Whilst Olympique de Marseille currently sit third in Ligue 1, their defensive record thus far leaves a little to be desired. They have already conceded 16 goals this season, more than any other team in the top five.
That is despite the arrivals of defensive reinforcements, notably in the form of Derek Cornelius and Lilian Brassier this summer. L’Équipe understands that the latter, who arrived from Stade Brestois, could even be allowed to leave Marseille this January.
At right-back, there could also be a departure with Pol Lirola and Amir Murillo both available. OM are more keen to offload the latter, who occupies a non-EU spot in the squad. Beyond departures, Marseille are also looking to add reinforcements. Two profiles: Kiliann Sildillia (21) and Danilo (33) are being considered.
Both players are versatile, capable of either playing centrally or out wide, and this is something that Marseille are looking for. Talks with Freiburg defender Sildillia are ongoing, and according to L’Équipe, are advancing well. Many of the clubs showing an interest in Danilo are waiting until the end of the Brazilian’s contract, however, Les Phocéens have a strong relationship with Juventus, which could open up the possibility of a winter transfer, which would allow the Serie A side to earn a fee.
