£80m star ‘more likely to join than Caicedo’ at the Emirates

Arsenal have Declan Rice ‘on their radar’ and the West Ham United captain is ‘more likely’ to complete a summer switch to the Emirates Stadium than Brighton & Hove Albion star Moises Caicedo, journalist Paul Brown has told GiveMeSport.

Although Mikel Arteta sealed the £12million signing of Jorginho on deadline day, the Gunners boss appears to still be plotting a move for another central midfielder at the end of the season.

Arsenal transfer news – Declan Rice

According to The Times, Rice has been identified as Arsenal’s top target ahead of the summer and the north Londoners are growing in confidence that they will get a deal worth close to £80million over the line.

The report suggests the Gunners are optimistic that they can beat other suitors to the England international’s signature due to their status as the Premier League pacesetters.

It has emerged that West Ham will allow Rice to move onto pastures new at the end of the season if their valuation is met after he has rejected multiple offers of a new contract.

The central midfielder has indicated he is keen to leave the London Stadium due to a desire to compete for trophies and in the Champions League, leading to interest from Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle United.

But Arsenal may be in pole position as respected journalist Rudy Galetti recently told GiveMeSport that the Gunners have already made contact over a potential move for Rice.

What has Paul Brown said about Rice?

Brown understands that Rice is in Arsenal’s sights ahead of the transfer window reopening for business in the summer.

The journalist feels the Gunners are more likely to succeed in their pursuit of the 24-year-old than eventually landing Caicedo.

Brown told GiveMeSport: “The Declan Rice link is definitely real. He’s on their radar too.

“I suspect, by the summer, if he does decide he wants to move, that one might be more likely to happen than Caicedo now.”

What happened during Arsenal’s Caicedo pursuit in January?

According to Sky Sports, Arsenal failed with two bids worth up to £70million as they looked to prise Caicedo away from Brighton last month.

The report suggests the north Londoners increased their proposal after a £60million offer was also snubbed by their Premier League rivals, while Chelsea were unsuccessful with a £55million bid earlier in the winter window.

Caicedo took to social media to confirm he wanted to seal his Brighton exit, but they were unwilling to do business unless his £80million price tag was met.

It has emerged that Brighton’s respect for Arsenal has soured after they persisted in their bid to lure the Ecuadorian to the Emirates Stadium, weakening their position when it comes to attempting to strike a deal further down the line.
