£56m duo now ‘ones to watch’ at the Emirates

Arsenal still have both Youri Tielemans and Ruben Neves on their “list”, with a winter move not yet ruled out, transfer insider Dean Jones told GIVEMESPORT.

The Premier League leaders have been linked with new midfielders in January, but Jones did admit a deal was more likely to happen in the summer.

Arsenal transfer news – Youri Tielemans and Ruben Neves

Approaching the end of his £120,000 a week contract, Leicester City midfielder Tielemans looks set to leave the club in the summer, with Arsenal rumoured to be keen.

CBS reporter Ben Jacobs revealed to GMS there was a “strong likelihood” Tielemans joins Arsenal on a free transfer at the end of the current campaign.

Tielemans, who has notched up over 170 appearances for the East Midlands outfit, could prove a fantastic bit of business from Arsenal, should they acquire his services on a free transfer.

However, in the latest update, transfer insider Jones told GMS the Gunners could still welcome a midfielder in the January transfer window, having wrapped up the signing of Leonardo Trossard.

Of course, Tielemans – who cost Leicester £40 million in July 2019 – is one name mooted as a potential option this month, as is Wolverhampton’s Wanderers Neves, who is also tipped to be on the move.

Unlike Tielemans, Neves still has over a year remaining on his contract and the Portuguese international is believed to want out of Wolves.

According to talkSPORT, Wolves are now resigned to the fact they’re going to lose Neves – who joined the club for £16 million in July 2017 – in the near future, with Liverpool and Barcelona named among the potential suitors.

What has Dean Jones now said about Tielemans and Neves to Arsenal?

In his latest update with GMS, Jones reiterated Arsenal’s January window strategy, indicating they could still yet move for a midfielder this month.

On any potential deals, Jones said: “Players like Youri Tielemans or Ruben Neves are still players I’d consider to be on Arsenal’s list.

“They’re players we should probably look out for in this window or at the end of the season.”

Who would be more suited to what Arsenal need in midfield?

While Arsenal have dazzled with their performances this season, it’s clear they could do with some extra reinforcements to bolster squad depth.

In terms of which player would be the better option for Arsenal, both Tielemans and Neves stack up fairly equally, especially when it comes to goal contributions.

According to FBref, Tielemans and Neves have both registered four goal contributions so far this season, indicating they’d add an extra level of creativity to Arsenal’s ranks.

What’s more, the two both have an almost identical pass completion percentage, with the two midfielders completing 82% of their passes on average per 90 minutes.

However, Tielemans has attempted almost 150 more short passes than Neves this season, suggesting he may be better suited to Arteta’s ball-dominant playing style.
