Arsenal transfer target Alexis Mac Allister would “bring a lot of excitement” were he to move to the Emirates, Dean Jones has told GIVEMESPORT.
The Brighton midfielder – who won the World Cup with Argentina less than a month ago – has been linked with a move to Mikel Arteta’s side and a number of other top Premier League clubs in this January transfer window.
Arsenal Transfer News – Alexis Mac Allister
According to The Athletic, the 24-year-old is someone who Arsenal hold interest in, although they face huge competition from the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Juventus and Atletico Madrid among others.
Indeed, a report from 90min claimed Brighton want a fee in excess of £50m in order to consider parting ways with the Argentine.
Speaking to Sky Sports recently however, Mac Allister insisted that he is in no rush to leave the Seagulls, and is more than content with life at Roberto de Zerbi’s side.
What did Dean Jones say about Arsenal’s move for Mac Allister?
Now, Jones has admitted that while Mac Allister would add a lot to this Arsenal side, he cannot envisage the club bringing in the midfield star to the Emirates right now.
He said: “Mac Allister is a really good player, he would bring great energy and would bring a lot of excitement. I just don’t know that this is genuinely going to happen right now.”
MacAllister would be huge signing of intent from Arsenal
Having helped win the World Cup for Argentina last month – even setting up Angel di Maria for his goal in the final itself – Mac Allister’s stock has never been higher than it is currently.
It’s no surprise then that some of the top clubs around Europe are all keen to lure him away from Brighton, and given the club’s recent history of selling big – the likes of Ben White and Marc Cucurella for example – the club could be tempted to cash in on one of their prized assets.
If Arsenal could tempt their fellow Premier League side into a sale, then it would be a huge statement of intent heading into the final few months of the season.
The club are already hoping to tie up a deal for Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk soon according to The Evening Standard, and adding a player of Mac Allister’s quality would be another surefire sign that the Kroenke family mean business this season.
