Chelsea star Conor Gallagher will have to ‘consider his future’ at Stamford Bridge during the summer, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

The Blues were busy on deadline day as they lured Enzo Fernandez to west London in a British record-breaking £106.8million deal, but further adjustments are likely to be made to Graham Potter’s squad at the end of the season.

Chelsea transfer news – Conor Gallagher

According to Metro, Gallagher is among a host of Chelsea players who could be sold during the summer as the club looks to balance the books after spending big last month.

The report suggests Crystal Palace and Newcastle United remain admirers of the England international even though the transfer deadline has passed.

Gallagher was told during the final hours of the January window that he would not be allowed to join one of Chelsea’s direct rivals, ruling out a switch to St James’ Park.

The central midfielder also snubbed a potential move to Everton after the Merseyside outfit launched a £45million bid.

But respected journalist Pete O’Rourke recently told GiveMeSport that Gallagher will have concerns over his game-time after Fernandez’s arrival.

What has Dean Jones said about Gallagher?

Jones believes Gallagher will do all he can to show Potter he deserves to have a long-term future at Chelsea.

However, the journalist feels the 22-year-old will have to assess his options when the transfer window reopens if he finds himself falling down the pecking order following the Blues’ January business.

Jones told GiveMeSport: “I think it’s a time when Conor Gallagher will get his head down and try to work his way back into that Chelsea team.

“But we’ve probably seen now that there is a possibility that, in the summer, he has to consider his future.”

How has Gallagher performed so far this season?

According to Transfermarkt, Gallagher has made 25 appearances since the campaign got underway, chalking up two goal contributions in the process.

It comes after the Blues’ academy product shone during a loan spell with Crystal Palace, where he found the back of the net eight times and registered a further five assists, last season.

While Gallagher was a threat in the final third of the pitch at Selhurst Park, Sofascore statistics show he has averaged 1.4 tackles per Premier League outing since returning to Chelsea.

That emphasises the ex-West Bromwich Albion loanee, who has been described as ‘fantastic’ by Potter, is capable of giving the west Londoners’ backline additional protection.

Gallagher has been handed an average match rating of 6.54 by WhoScored, but he will need to increase that figure if he wants to make one of Chelsea’s central midfield berths his own.
