Tottenham Hotspur have made defender Emerson Royal available for transfer, journalist Dean Jones has informed GiveMeSport.

Jones, however, says Spurs will only sell for a price that suits the north London club.

Tottenham transfer news – Emerson Royal

According to football.london, Tottenham are willing to consider offers for Emerson this month.

Antonio Conte appears to be keen on shaking up his options at right wing-back, with the same outlet reporting that Spurs like Sporting Lisbon’s Pedro Porro.

As of now, though, they seem reluctant to pay the 23-year-old’s release clause, which Sporting are allegedly demanding.

Sky Sports recently claimed that the Premier League outfit have cooled their interest in him due to his club insisting that they trigger his release clause.

What has Dean Jones said about Emerson Royal and Tottenham?

Jones has told GMS that Tottenham will not prevent Emerson from leaving Hotspur Way if a suitable offer for him arrives.

On the Brazilian, the transfer insider said: “The Emerson report is bang on. He is available, but it’s only going to happen at the right price and you need a club to come into the picture. I don’t yet know if that will happen, especially to a degree and a level that suits Tottenham.”

Should Tottenham sell Emerson Royal?

Emerson is clearly not a player who Conte completely trusts, with the former Barcelona man being left on the bench in Tottenham’s last couple of Premier League fixtures.

On one occasion this season, he even saw Ivan Perisic start ahead of him, which should be a bit of a concern given that right wing-back is not the Croatian’s natural position.

Emerson has also been criticised at times during the campaign for his defending.

Speaking on talkSPORT after his red card against Arsenal back in October, Tottenham legend Clive Allen said: “That is a ridiculous challenge. Raises his boot, six studs and he’s just jeopardised the whole game for his club in this north London derby.”

All in all, perhaps it is time for Tottenham and Emerson, who cost his current employers around £25m, as reported by BBC Sport, to go their separate ways.

Again, the Brazil international does not seem to be someone who Conte has complete faith in, and he could find game time hard to come by if a new right wing-back arrives at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this month. Therefore, a move this window could make a lot of sense for all parties.
