Edu now wants ‘two key signings’ at the Emirates

£25m star ‘knows he has big part to play’ at Emirates

Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney still has a ‘big part to play’ for the Gunners this season despite not being a regular starter, transfer insider Dean Jones has informed GIVEMESPORT.

The Scotland international has played second fiddle for much of this season at left-back to preferred choice Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Arsenal News – Kieran Tierney

Lately, CBS Sports journalist James Benge has claimed on the House of Champions podcast on Youtube that Tierney could leave the Emirates in the summer in light of his lack of first-team appearances.

Benge stated: “There is this growing expectation at Arsenal right now that Kieran Tierney could move in the summer.

“I don’t think Arsenal would push him out the exit door but now he’s not a guaranteed starter. I think if the right offer came in, all parties are kind of thinking this is something that might happen, not guaranteed.”

Following his suggestion that Tierney could leave the club this summer, Benge then went on to say that Takehiro Tomiyasu would assume the role of secondary left-back under Mikel Arteta, which is a position the 24-year-old has played when called upon previously in the Spaniard’s time at the club.

Isle of Man-born Tierney still has three and a half years left on his current deal in North London, which is due to expire in the summer of 2026.

What has Dean Jones said about Kieran Tierney?

Jones believes that Tierney will still have plenty of chances to get involved between now and the end of this term in Arsenal’s fight for the Premier League title.

Jones told GMS: “It’s very few times in your career that you get to be part of moments like this. I think we have to weigh in that too. Obviously, I’m sure it’s frustrating when you’re not an integral part of it, but Tierney will know that he’s still got a big part to play in the season.”

Should Arsenal keep hold of Kieran Tierney for the time being?

Signed from Celtic for £25 million back in 2019, Tierney has gone on to become a fan favourite at the Emirates Stadium, cultivating a reputation as a hard-working full-back that gives everything for the Gunners every time he dons their colours.

Making 110 appearances for Arsenal, the 25-year-old has notched five goals and 13 assists across all competitions, as per Transfermarkt. In 2022/23, Tierney has largely been used as a second choice in favour of Zinchenko, though has still been a steady option when chosen to play.

Which year did Dennis Bergkamp leave Arsenal?

In the Premier League this campaign, Tierney has performed 26 ball recoveries in his time on the pitch, demonstrating his defensive reliability when selected by Arteta.

Whether he will remain beyond the summer in North London is anyone’s guess. Right now, the most likely scenario is that he continues to contribute at the Gunners between now and the end of the season before potentially reassessing his future upon its conclusion.
