£180k-a-week star ‘would be dream signing for Conte’ – GiveMeSport

Tottenham Hotspur will struggle to pull off a ‘dream addition’ by welcoming Inter Milan star Marcelo Brozovic to Hotspur Way, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Spurs may have spent close to £150million during the summer window, but head coach Antonio Conte will be handed another opportunity to freshen up his squad in January.

What’s the latest news involving Brozovic?

According to Italian media outlet Mondo Calcio, Tottenham are at the front of the queue to sign Brozovic when the winter window opens for business at the turn of the year.

The report suggests the central midfielder, who is currently at the World Cup after being named in the Croatia squad, could be sold by Inter amid interest from various clubs.

Brozovic’s future appears to be up in the air despite his £180,000-per-week contract not being due to expire until the summer of 2026.

The 30-year-old has made 12 appearances since the season got underway, although he missed the majority of the Champions League group stage thanks to a hamstring injury.

Brozovic also enjoyed 88 outings under Tottenham boss Conte when he was in charge at the San Siro.

What has Dean Jones said about Brozovic?

Jones believes Tottenham have shown their ambition by setting their sights on luring Brozovic away from Inter.

However, the journalist has serious doubts over whether the Serie A giants will be willing to sanction his exit midway through the campaign.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “Brozovic is part of the steelwork at Inter Milan. He’s so influential for them and brilliant.

“I can understand why Tottenham would be going after a player like this and he would be a dream addition to the midfield, but I just don’t see it happening.

“This would be an unbelievable signing and one that I just can’t believe Inter Milan would allow to happen.”

Would Brozovic be a good signing for Tottenham?

Tottenham completed the £35million acquisition of Yves Bissouma from Brighton & Hove Albion when Conte looked to bolster his midfield during the summer, but they may have been better off going for Brozovic.

Statistics show the Inter man has averaged more goals, shots, completed passes, tackles and interceptions than the 26-year-old this season.

Brozovic boasts an 88 per cent pass accuracy and contributes defensively, having made 1.2 interceptions, one tackle and 0.9 clearances per Serie A outing.

There is no doubt that the Croatian, who has won plenty of silverware in his homeland and Italy, would be an astute signing for Spurs.
