Tottenham Hotspur could look to a “marquee” move for Juventus and France international Adrien Rabiot, with Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici looking at a deal to bring the midfielder to Hotspur Way, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.
The Serie A star is currently on World Cup duty in Qatar with Didier Deschamps’ Les Bleus squad.
Tottenham transfer news – Adrien Rabiot
According to a report from Calciomercato in Italy, Tottenham are reportedly interested in making a move for Rabiot when his £149k-per-week contract at Juventus expires at the end of this season, as per Salary Sport.
However, the same report suggests that Spurs could face competition for the Frenchman’s signature from fellow Premier League sides Arsenal and Chelsea, with both clubs prepared to offer him the terms that he is looking for.
Journalist Dean Jones has already told GIVEMESPORT that Tottenham have been looking at a move for Rabiot for “some time” and his performances at the World Cup may convince the Lilywhites to take another look at the midfielder.
And O’Rourke believes that the signing of the Serie A star would be a “marquee” addition at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, whether it be a move in January or a deal that takes place next summer.
What has O’Rourke said about Rabiot and Tottenham?
O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “I think you’d have to say he would be a marquee signing. He could be a great signing for Tottenham, whether it’s in January or next summer, potentially on a free transfer when his contract runs out at Juventus.
“We all know Tottenham and Juventus’ links between Conte and Paratici. So, they’ll be well aware of Adrien Rabiot. He came very close to joining Manchester United in the summer before that move fell through.”
Will Rabiot move to Tottenham?
Agreeing on personal terms with Rabiot is unlikely to be an easy task as Manchester United discovered in the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils were forced to pull the plug on a £15m deal with Juventus for the midfielder with his mother and agent Veronique suggesting that he should be on the same wages as Bruno Fernandes who reportedly earns £240k-per-week, as per The Sun.
However, Rabiot’s performances at the World Cup with France may have United regretting that decision, with the Juventus man providing both a goal and an assist in three appearances at the tournament, according to Transfermarkt.
And an impressive average Sofascore rating of 7.47 for his performances on the world’s biggest stage may suggest that he would be capable of adapting to the pressures of playing in the Premier League week in and week out.
It will be interesting to see who wins the race for Rabiot’s signature if the 32-time France international doesn’t sign an extension with Juventus before his deal expires, and Spurs will be hoping that with Conte and Fabio Paratici’s connections, they will be at the front of that queue.
