115-goal star would ‘definitely be interested’ in Old Trafford move

Manchester United target Christian Eriksen would definitely be interested in a move to Old Trafford, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Denmark international is wanted by several Premier League clubs and Erik ten Hag is hoping to convince him to make the switch to the Theatre of Dreams.

What’s the latest news involving Eriksen?

According to BBC Sport, United are keen on signing the midfielder, who’ll be available on a free transfer once his deal at Brentford expires later this month.

But while the Red Devils have made the Dane an offer, the 30-year-old would prefer to stay in London, with Thomas Frank desperate to keep him at the club.

Tottenham were also thought to be in the running to re-sign Eriksen, but Football.London believe that Spurs haven’t followed up their contact with his representatives from earlier this month, which could give Brentford the edge.

The Daily Mail reckon Everton are another top-flight side that have offered Eriksen a contract, but O’Rourke thinks the ex-Ajax star would give serious consideration over a move to Old Trafford.

What did O’Rourke say about Eriksen?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “He would definitely be interested in a move to Manchester United if the opportunity came around, the chance to play for a such a big club, a new, exciting challenge under Erik ten Hag, and I definitely think that would play a big factor in Eriksen’s thinking when he decides what to do with his future.”

What role would Eriksen play for United?

With Bruno Fernandes a nailed on starter in the central attacking role, Eriksen, who’s scored 115 goals across his club career, might have his work cut out to become a regular starter, but with United back in the Europa League, he would improve their squad depth.

However, with the World Cup coming up later this year, Eriksen, described as ‘phenomenal‘ by Noel Whelan, will surely want to be playing regularly to maintain his sharpness ahead of the tournament which starts in November.

United have recently moved on the likes of Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic, though, so there would be opportunities for the ex-Tottenham man to get game-time, especially with matches coming thick and fast before the showpiece in Qatar.
