FC Köln will likely attempt to sign Borussia Dortmund forward Youssoufa Moukoko this winter, according to Bild.
The Germany international is reserved to being a secondary striker at BVB this season and requires more playing time, particularly if Moukoko wishes to be a part of Germany’s squad at the upcoming European Championships next summer.
The 18-year-old is yet to make the starting 11 for Edin Terzić’s side this season. Instead, the striker has made 7 Bundesliga appearances from the bench, scoring on one occasion.
What’s more, this means that Moukoko’s development at Dortmund has stagnated. Playing for a side in which he can be the number one striker would not only put him in favour of the national side, it would enable him to progress as a professional.
Köln are facing a difficult season down the bottom of the Bundesliga, and there have been calls for the club to bring in an experienced top-division forward. Head coach Stefen Baumgart has already said he requires a striker in the January transfer window, and what better person than Moukoko?
The 18-year-old is experienced for his age, knows the Bundesliga well, and is on the lookout for regular first-team football.
However, the only potential downfall is Moukoko’s €6m per year salary at BVB. Köln can’t afford such wages right now. This means a loan deal is the only possible way of securing the forward’s services this winter.
