Incoming Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso has made a final call on the place of Luka Modrić in his project for next season.
That’s according to Radio MARCA, who have confirmed that the Croatian looks all set to prolong his stay in Spain’s capital beyond the summer.
Modrić’s future has of course long positioned itself front and centre in the headlines surrounding Real Madrid.
This comes with the former Tottenham man’s current contract terms due to expire upon the conclusion of the campaign.
Set to turn 40 later this year, and with a new manager on the way in at the Santiago Bernabéu, Modrić’s prospects for the 2025/26 campaign had therefore until now been considered as very much up in the air.
As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the Spanish media is anything to go by, then those eager to see the veteran midfielder extend his stint in Madrid for another year can rest easy.
This comes amid confirmation by way of Radio MARCA that:
‘Luka Modrić is expected to remain with Real Madrid for another year. This is “an express request from Xabi Alonso when it comes to putting together next season’s squad”.’
The inbound Alonso, it is added, ‘considers the Croatian’s experience and leadership as important’.
