As WWE begins to finalise its plans for the remainder of 2025, details have emerged regarding the company’s plans for one of its biggest babyfaces, Cody Rhodes. ‘The American Nightmare’ is the reigning WWE Champion, having defeated John Cena for the gold earlier this month at SummerSlam.
Now that his issues with Cena are finally settled, ‘The Amercan Nightmare’ looks set for a feud over the gold with Drew McIntyre. However, a match between the pair has yet to be officially announced. What has been reported, though, is that Rhodes won’t be defending another title that he owns, even though WWE advertised that he would do so last year.
At Crown Jewel 2024 last November, WWE Champion Rhodes defeated then-World Heavyweight Champion, Gunther, to win the inaugural men’s Crown Jewel Championship. When first unveiling the Crown Jewel Championship, the company insisted that the title would be part of an annual tradition where the WWE Champion would meet the World Champion in both the men’s and women’s divisions at Crown Jewel PLE.
WWE Doesn’t Plan to Have Titles Competed For in 2025
To date, every edition of Crown Jewel has taken place in Saudi Arabia and the Crown Jewel Championships paid homage to the region with their green and gold design. However, with the country hosting the Royal Rumble in 2026, Crown Jewel won’t be staged in the Gulf State this year.
Instead, the PLE will emanate from Perth, Western Australia in October, and – according to a report from BodySlam.net – the Crown Jewel Championships won’t be contested at the event.
When the titles were revealed last October, the company made a big deal of their importance. WWE Hall of Famer (and Chief Content Officer) Paul ‘Triple H’ Lesvesque was even involved in their official unveiling.
However, since Rhodes and women’s champion Liv Morgan won the titles last November, little mention has been made of them. The recent report does not indicate whether the belts are on a hiatus or have been scrapped entirely, but the fact that the concept hasn’t even survived 12 months isn’t exactly a positive sign for the future.
No matches have yet been confirmed for Crown Jewel 2025. It is likely that the card will begin to take shape following the Clash in Paris PLE on August 31st. What is confirmed, though, is that 17-time world champion John Cena will make his final appearance in Australia on the show in what will be one of his last WWE dates as an active competitor.
In addition to Cena, Australian favourite Rhea Ripley will be in action. It would be a major surprise if Rhodes didn’t join them, even if he won’t be competing for the Crown Jewel Championship.
