Wrestlepalooza proved to be a historic evening for the WWE as it marked the company’s first ever show on ESPN, one of the biggest sports networks in the world.
The WWE prepared a stacked card for the Premium Live Event, with AJ Lee making her in-ring return after a decade and teaming up with her husband, CM Punk, to take on Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch. For the headliner, the show had billed Cody Rhodes defending his Undisputed WWE Championship against Drew McIntyre.
But to make sure the night kicked off on a high note, the WWE opened the show with the greatest of all time, John Cena, in his final encounter with The Beast, Brock Lesnar.
Brock Lesnar Squashes John Cena
Cena and Lesnar have had some memorable matches in the past. And WWE fans were hoping to get one final classic between the two adversaries before Cena calls it a career. Unfortunately, that’s not what happened.
Lesnar wound up squashing Cena in the opener, similar to their previous match over a decade ago at SummerSlam 2014. Brock didn’t land 16 suplexes on the leader of the Cenation this time around. But he did deliver six F-5s to Cena to ultimately finish off the 17-time world champion in their final match against each other.
Brock had control in the first few minutes. But Cena was able to get in some offense and even dropped Lesnar with a couple of Attitude Adjustments. But that wasn’t enough to keep The Beast Incarnate down for long, as he soon regained control and finished off Cena with four F-5s in succession.
Arguably the best part of the match happened before the bell rung. Cena made an epic entrance in his final appearance in Indiana, where he brought out a Cenation of kids for a special moment.
Moreover, much to everyone’s surprise, Lesnar’s former advocate, Paul Heyman, came out to provide the riveting introduction for The Beast.
After pinning Cena for the 1-2-3, Lesnar came back to the ring and dropped the poor referee with an F-5. He then raised his fallen foe once again on his shoulders to give him one last F-5 for good measure.
After the 17-time world champ took his somber walk up the ramp and gave the Indiana crowd one final wave goodbye, WWE fans could not help but express their disgust over how this stop of Cena’s farewell tour went down.
WWE Fans Were Not Pleased with John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar at Wrestlepalooza
Wrestling fans are a loud bunch. And they made sure to let their feelings known after Cena’s match with Lesnar at WrestlePalooza.
Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton didn’t appear too happy with what he just witnessed.
Kids in attendance at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse were bawling at Lesnar destroying their hero.
Some believe the WWE has completely ruined Cena’s retirement tour, especially after witnessing what went down tonight.
Meanwhile, Wrestle Features hopes that this is the last time we will ever see Lesnar in Cena’s retirement tour.
It remains to be seen what’s next for Cena in his retirement tour. But one thing’s for certain, there are only five dates to go before the greatest of all time hangs up his jorts for good.
