Wolves vs Chelsea prediction and odds ahead of Carabao Cup clash

Chelsea will be looking to put their shock defeat to Sunderland at the weekend behind them as they look to secure a place in the next round of the Carabao Cup

One of four all-Premier League clashes in the EFL Cup fourth round will take place at Molineux on Wednesday evening, as Wolverhampton Wanderers host Chelsea.

Wolves have lifted the League Cup twice in their history, most recently in 1980, while Chelsea have claimed the trophy on five occasions, with their last triumph coming in 2015. This season, Wolves have endured a difficult start in the Premier League, collecting just two points from their opening nine matches of the 2025-26 campaign, leaving them at the bottom of the table. Vitor Pereira’s side remain winless in the league and are coming off a narrow 3-2 defeat to Burnley. However, the EFL Cup has provided some relief, with Wolves overcoming West Ham United and Everton to reach this stage.

Historically, Wolves have enjoyed success in this competition, having won it in 1974 and 1980. The cup has offered a welcome distraction from their league struggles, and notably, Wolves have won three of their last five encounters with Chelsea across all competitions. However, Chelsea have had the upper hand in the most recent meetings, including a 6-2 victory at Molineux in their last Premier League visit in August 2024, and a 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge in January 2025. The Blues also thrashed Wolves 6-0 in their last EFL Cup meeting back in September 2012.

Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea will be aiming to bounce back after a disappointing 2-1 Premier League defeat to Sunderland on Saturday. The Blues currently sit ninth in the table with 14 points from nine matches, having previously enjoyed a four-game winning streak in all competitions before the loss to Sunderland. Chelsea have only featured once in this season’s EFL Cup so far, edging out Lincoln City 2-1 in the third round. This fixture comes just days before a crucial league showdown against Tottenham Hotspur.

Chelsea have a strong pedigree in the League Cup, winning it five times, most recently in the 2014-15 season when they defeated Tottenham 2-0 in the final.
