Will Still is in very advanced talks with Southampton to become their next head coach, according to Foot Mercato. The 32-year-old Anglo-Belgian coach has announced on Saturday he would leave his position as Lens head coach in the aftermath of Les Sang et Or’s 4-0 home win against AS Monaco, the final game of the Ligue 1 season. Still has cited “personal reasons” to explain his decision. Still’s partner – Sky Sports presenter Emma Saunders – is recovering from encephalitis.
The outlet adds that talks between Still and Southampton are at a very advanced stage. Nevertheless, Lens are trying to garner a compensation fee from the Championship side. Still was tied over a three-year contract with the Ligue 1 side. The contract was set to expire in 2027. Lens have reportedly resigned themselves to the fact that Still will not change his mind. Southampton are bottom of the Premier League under the guidance of Simon Rusk, who took over from Ivan Juric.
