Assessing the reason behind Juventus’ withdrawal from the transfer negotiations for Lille’s Edon Zhegrova.
According to a report by John Albanese of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus expressed a strong interest in Lille midfielder Edon Zhegrova last summer but went cold on his trail during negotiations.
The Bianconeri’s sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli sees the Ligue 1 as a pool for talent and had plans to induct Edon Zhegrova at the start of the season. However, the club saw a much more economical investment in the likes of Francisco Conceicao, who is three years younger than the Kosovan, and Nico Gonzalez as both players could contribute well to Juventus’s system.
Zhegrova’s recent outing against Juventus in the 1-1 Champions League draw sparked interest yet again amongst the Turin-based club’s management. While they backed off from the transfer in the summer, a return to the quest is still on the cards.
