Xavi Hernández was unable to travel to Miami with Barcelona on Saturday, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.
Barcelona left for the US on Saturday and the club’s head coach will join the team over the next few days due to “administrative and passport problems”.
The Mundo Deportivo report states that he could not travel because he required special permission, after previous visits to Iran.
Xavi visited the country on AFC Champions League duty during his spell with Al Sadd.
The United States and Iran have no formal diplomatic relations, and those who have previously visited Iran may not be immediately eligible to travel to the US.
On Barca’s pre-season tour of the US, they will play against Inter Miami, Real Madrid, Juventus and New York Red Bulls.
