West Ham United are drawing increasingly closer to sealing a deal for Borna Sosa from Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart, according to the Croatian outlet Index.
Sosa’s representatives have been in England over the last two days while his soon-to-be former employers have already started seeking a replacement for the left-back.
Sosa enjoyed a fine individual campaign at the Mercedes-Benz Arena where he racked up two goals and nine assists in 30 games across all competitions.
Aside from his evident attacking threat, Sosa is also an elite ball progressor as he ranks in the 95th percentile for both progressive carries and passes made compared to his positional peers.
The 24-year-old is also an excellent dribbler with his 1.23 completed take-ons per 90 minutes better than over 80% of all full-backs in Europe’s top-five leagues over the last year.
Unsurprisingly, he has been linked with a move to Newcastle United and Manchester City with the latter now in search of alternatives having been priced out of a deal for Marc Cucurella.
Off the back of a 1-0 defeat against Pep Guardiola’s men on Sunday, West Ham are now on course to get one over on Man City in the transfer market with the Cityzens set to suffer another blow in their pursuit of a new left-back, although they are reportedly set to snap up Sergio Gomez from Anderlecht.
Having missed out on acquiring the services of Filip Kostic, who is now closing in on a move to Serie A giants Juventus, David Moyes’ men can take solace in the fact that they would be landing an equally impressive player in Sosa.
Sosa would become the sixth new arrival at the London Stadium this summer following the earlier acquisitions of Nayef Aguerd, Maxwel Cornet, Flynn Downes, Alphonse Areola and most recently Gianluca Scamacca.
