Wilfried Kanga’s 88th minute goal proved to be the difference, as Schalke could not manage a point in the capital on Matchday 11. Interim trainer Matthias Kreutzer, who has replaced Frank Kramer temporarily, spoke with DAZN after the game:
“It’s depressing for all of us. Of course there were hanging heads in the dressing room. But our heads have to come back up – and we have to stand up.”
The 39-year-old added that, “This pit is not a pit at all. We came to the Bundesliga as promoted players, everyone knew what was in store for us. In the end, Hertha won happily today, so I don’t want to talk about a pit. – We’ll get out of it, don’t worry.”
Schalke have a challenging set of matches before the World Cup break against Freiburg, Werder Bremen, Mainz and Bayern Munich. After Bochum’s surprising win over Union Berlin, Schalke sit last in the league table with six points recorded.
