According to a report from Foot Mercato EFL Championship side Watford FC have contacted the entourage of Stade Malherbe de Caen striker Alexandre Mendy (31), who is also the subject of interest from recently relegated Montpellier HSC in Ligue 2.
The Guinea-Bissau international has scored 75 goals in 175 appearances across all competitions for Stade Malherbe, and is under contract in Normandy until 2026. Mendy is the all-time leading scorer of the club owned by Kylian Mbappé, who were relegated to the third tier last season after a dreadful season which saw Les Vikings finish bottom on 22 points.
Relegated to Ligue 2 this season, Montpellier are looking to rebuild their squad and have reignited contact with the player’s entourage in recent days. Talks between the two French clubs are said to be progressing positively, although no agreement has yet been reached.
