Von Miller Explains Why Tom Brady Isn’t the Greatest Quarterback of All-Time

Tom Brady accomplished everything in the NFL, compiling a staggering resume throughout his 23-year career. The former sixth-round pick out of Michigan was the centerpiece of the league’s most decorated dynasty with the New England Patriots.

During his time in Foxborough, Brady made it to the playoffs 18 times, winning 17 AFC titles, nine conference championships, and six Super Bowls.

If there were any doubts that Tom could not succeed without head coach Bill Belichick, those were subsequently erased shortly after the legendary quarterback signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the age of 43.

Brady ended the Bucs twelve-year playoff drought immediately, leading the franchise to its second-ever Super Bowl title. The San Mateo, California native retired in 2023 as the all-time leader in Super Bowls, wins, completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns.

It’s a tall task to argue that any player was better than Brady, but Washington Commanders linebacker Von Miller disagrees with that notion.

The eight-time Pro Bowler, who will also have a bust in Canton in the near future, has one player over Brady, and honestly, it’s not surprising that Von made this choice.

Miller may have held a losing record against Brady in the regular season, but he did have the 2-1 edge in the playoffs. That includes the 2016 AFC Championship, where the star linebacker was the best player on the field, recording 2.5 sacks and an interception.

Von continued that momentum into the next game, winning Super Bowl MVP over the vaunted Carolina Panthers. That contest marked the career last game for the player that Miller has above Brady, Peyton Manning.

In a recent interview on the Glory Daze Podcast, the Dallas native explained why Peyton has the edge in his book.

Peyton Manning revolutionized the quarterback position with his ability to consistently make pre-snap reads and audible accordingly to throw opposing defenses’ offense.

This student of the game approach, along with Peyton’s phenomenal accolades, resulted in a career that surpasses almost anyone in terms of accolades.

Manning has the record for regular-season MVPs at five, and is a seven-time First-team All-Pro. In comparison, Brady has three MVPs and three First-team All-Pro appearances to his name.

The two met 17 times in their careers, with Peyton going 6-11 in those clashes and 3-2 in the playoffs.

At a distance, a case can be made for Miller’s hot take. But, postseason production is still where Brady distances himself from Manning.

Tom had a higher completion percentage, passer rating, and better touchdown-to-interception ratio when it mattered most. And the statistical and results-based gap between the two only gets more severe when it comes to their Super Bowl performances.

Overall, at least Miller picked the only other quarterback ever to win it all with two franchises. And, after listening to Von detail how great Peyton was as a teammate, it’s not surprising the Indianapolis Colts’ and Denver Broncos’ legend will always be Miller’s greatest quarterback ever.
