Villarreal set to replace Unai Emery

Following the announcement that Unai Emery is leaving Villarreal to join Aston Villa, the Spanish club have already set about finding a replacement, according to AS.

For the moment, director of football Miguel Ángel Tena is taking over on an interim basis, but all eyes are on the search for a new coach. Marcelino García Toral is being sounded out for the job. He left the club in August 2016, but they believe he is a strong candidate, however it may prove difficult to land the former Athletic Club boss, who has also been linked with the Spain job.

There is also the option of Marcelo Gallardo. The Argentine coach has just announced that he is leaving River Plate and could be looking at his first opportunity in Europe. Another candidate who has come to the fore is former Barcelona manager Quique Setién. The Cantabrian coach, who has not been in a job since leaving Barça, would be a good option for the Villarreal dugout and fits the profile that the club want.

As reported by Cadena SER, the former Barça and Betis coach, among others, has been tipped for the job. AS report that Villarreal are already in talks with Setién over taking charge of the team until the end of the season.
