Bild reports that VfB Stuttgart are looking to boost their options in midfield in the summer and sign a ‘number six’ who can challenge the current midfield duo.
Stuttgart are willing to spend a double-digit million fee on a midfielder. The aim is for the midfielder to be able to compete with Atakan Karazor and Angelo Stiller, who are their current undisputed midfield duo.
Due to competing in the Champions League this season, their summer transfer budget will be at least €25m. If VfB qualify for Europe they will then be able to spend €50m on upgrading their squad.
Stuttgart are currently fifth in the Bundesliga and are currently in a good position to qualify for European competition this season after also progressing to the DFB-Pokal semi-finals.
VfB’s aim should be to find a midfielder who is better than Karazor and can complement Stiller. There is no doubt in the quality that Stiller possess and as long as he is at the MHP Arena, the midfield should be built around him. While with Karazor, even though he is the team’s captain, Stuttgart can sign a better player who can take their midfield to the next level.
