Tyson Fury’s Backstage Reaction to Oleksandr Usyk Defeat

Tyson Fury lost to Oleksandr Usyk for the second successive time in their world heavyweight title rematch in Riyadh on Saturday night – and was fuming about the result. After 12 hard-fought rounds, the bout went to the judges’ scorecards, with all three ringside observers awarding the contest to the Ukrainian by a score of 116-112.

For those not overly familiar with boxing’s scoring system, that means the judges all gave ‘The Gypsy King’ just four of the 12 rounds. In a fight that most had far closer, the margin of victory was shocking.

Possibly the most shocked man of all was former lineal heavyweight champion Fury, who stormed out of the ring after the cards were read without giving a post-fight interview.

‘The Gypsy King’ insisted he had won the fight by a distance

Fury’s first words after the fight, though, would be captured on camera. As he made his way backstage, he bellowed:

While a three-round win in Fury’s favour might also have been considered a bit too wide by some, his frustration is understandable given how tight many believed the fight was.

Tyson Fury’s Immediate Reaction to Oleksandr Usyk Defeat

Fury was fuming…

Among those who couldn’t believe the scoring was Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, who unleashed a stinging rant about the judging while speaking with TNT Sports – calling the verdict “impossible”.

“It’s nuts. Did you have him only winning four rounds out of eight? Very harsh. It’s nuts. I don’t get it. But it is what it is, and we’ll see what happens in the future with Tyson. Tyson was dumbfounded. They gave him four rounds out of the 12, which is impossible.

“I’ve been around a long time and I know I’m biased, but one judge didn’t give him, any rounds from round six onwards. Look! No rounds. How can that be? That’s impossible.”

Fury had previously declared that he would find it hard to walk away from the sport – even if he lost to Usyk. However, given the controversial manner of his defeat, it’s possible that he may be so disillusioned with the sport that he has changed his stance on that vow.
