AFC Bournemouth are poised to sign Leeds United defensive midfielder Tyler Adams, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Although Adams has been recuperating from a hamstring injury at Leeds, all signs now point towards a transfer to Bournemouth.
However, the journey to this agreement hasn’t been without its fair share of drama.
The Cherries initially triggered the £20 million buyout clause in his contract on Monday, but a dispute emerged when Leeds contested the activation, arguing that the clause had already expired.
Nevertheless, the two clubs have managed to bury the hatchet and find common ground for Adams’ transfer to the Vitality Stadium.
The 26-year-old will undergo a medical assessment at Bournemouth later today.
Adams arrived at the club last summer and was impactful during his 26 appearances.
Also, he went to the 2022 FIFA World Cup with the USA and was one of their top performers at the tournament, further enhancing his reputation.
Unfortunately, a hamstring injury halted his progression, and he has been unable to recover fully since then.
Leeds, for their part, are experiencing a tough loss with Adams’ departure. He was a standout performer for the club, even in the face of relegation from the Premier League last season.
Some have speculated that his absence due to injury might have played a pivotal role in the club’s ultimate fate.
Interestingly, Adams came close to a move to Chelsea before they shifted their attention elsewhere, ultimately securing the signatures of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.
This turn of events adds to the intrigue of Adams’ impending transfer to Bournemouth.
The Cherries will now make the former RB Leipzig midfielder their eighth signing of the transfer window after copping Alex Scott, Hamed Junior Traore, Milos Kerkez, Justin Kluivert, Max Aarons, Ionut Radu, and Romain Faivre.
As for Leeds, they will need to use the £20 million transfer fee wisely. They have many squad issues to address and need to be tactful.
