According to a recent report, Football.london believes that Tottenham Hotspur Winger Steven Bergwijn is looking to exit ahead of the next season. It has been mentioned that the Dutch forward wants to move away in search of regular playtime.
Bergwijn’s Campaign For Tottenham Hotspur Last Season
Bergwijn has enjoyed a decent campaign in North London as he produced a few influential displays in the attacking end of the field. He has managed to score four goals and produce one assist over 29 appearances, featuring for the full 90 mins in only two games and mostly providing cover as a late substitute.
The Amsterdam-born sensation has fared well for his side despite the lack of game time after averaging 0.8 shots, 0.3 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per game in the English first division. He has been impressive at distributing the ball, completing 84.2% of his attempted passes in English top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Antonio Conte Cash In On Him This Summer?
Bergwijn can make some decent runs down the flanks. He excels at creating space for himself in front of the goal and is confident in taking a shot at a goal from a distance. He can display some impressive finishing if given enough chances inside the penalty box.
The Nederlands international is primarily an attacking midfielder but remains versatile to play anywhere over the frontline which makes him a brilliant addition to any squad.
If offered regular game time, Bergwijn would remain happy in staying at North London or else he could exit Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in search of more playtime. After all, the Italian tactician can already rely on Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Moura in the frontline, and thus a summer transfer makes sense for Bergwijn.
Antonio Conte would be wise to keep him for a couple of seasons offering him enough game time to develop and unlock his full potential. Even at 24, he continues to impress for the Dutch National team and can become an important first-team member for the Lilywhites.
