Tottenham Hotspur target Levi Colwill as Chelsea plan clear-out

Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing up a move for Chelsea loanee Levi Colwill, reports The Sun.

Colwill joined Chelsea’s academy in 2011. He spent ten years in their youth ranks, earning his first professional contract in 2021.

Last season, he enjoyed a promising loan spell at Huddersfield Town, helping them to the Championship play-off final. This prompted Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion to take him on loan for the 2022/23 campaign.

The youngster’s time at the Seagulls has been highly productive. He has featured 15 times in all competitions, contributing to ten wins and six clean sheets.

Furthermore, the 20-year-old has been a regular at England youth level. He has made a total of 20 appearances for the Young Lions, and has often been touted for a call-up to the senior team.

Colwill is approaching an age where he needs to be making regular appearances, which he may not get at Chelsea. As a result, he could pursue a move soon.

According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are considering a swoop for the centre-back, as the Blues plan a summer clear-out.

The south-west Londoners have been left with an overcrowded squad, having signed 16 new players this season. They have 33 senior players currently on their books, with a further 22 out on loan.

The report claims that Chelsea hope to keep hold of Colwill. However, with European qualification looking unlikely, they may have to cash in on some of their younger players in order to comply with financial fair play.

Spurs will be looking to strengthen their backline, having struggled defensively this season. They have conceded the most goals outside in the Premier League outside of the bottom seven, and haven’t kept a clean sheet in their previous six games.

While Cristian Romero remains a solid defender, the rest of their centre-back options have been called into question. Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez have come under scrutiny for their performances, while Clement Lenglet is set to return to Barcelona at the end of his loan spell.
