Tottenham Hotspur have stolen a march on their rivals Liverpool and Chelsea in the pursuit of Italian prodigy Niccolo Pisilli.

According to Sebastien Vidal, they have agreed on the basis of a deal to sign the 20-year-old midfielder from AS Roma, and they are likely to wrap up the move after the Club World Cup.

Liverpool & Chelsea keen

Pisilli has done quite well for Italy in the European Under-21 Championships, and Tottenham have been tracking his progress. As per TEAMtalk, Liverpool and Chelsea are keeping tabs on his development as well.

It will be interesting to see if the move from Spurs encourages the other two clubs to step up their pursuit of the player.

Pisilli would be a superb long-term acquisition for all three clubs. He has the potential to develop into a quality Premier League midfielder with the right guidance. He has already established himself as a first-team player for Roma, and he scored three goals last season.

The opportunity to join a club like Tottenham, Liverpool or Chelsea will be quite exciting for him. All three clubs have a proven track record when it comes to nurturing young players.

Spurs need more midfield depth, and they have invested in talented young players like Lucas Bergvall in recent windows. They are expected to replace the likes of Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur in future, and someone like Pissili would be ideal. He will help them control the tempo of the game and add technical ability to the side as well.

It will be interesting to see where the player ends up. Whoever ends up signing him for a reasonable amount of money could have a major bargain on their hands for the future.

The young midfielder will look to take on a new challenge and establish himself as a key player at the highest level. Regular football in the Premier League could accelerate his development and help him fulfil his potential.
