The top of the UFC’s heavyweight division has been pretty much at a standstill since Tom Aspinall won the interim title at UFC 295 in November 2023. In every case when an interim title is fought for, the winner is automatically guaranteed a shot at the undisputed title in their very next fight, however, due to the reigning champion, Jon Jones’ inactivity since winning the belt back in March 2023, the division has not been able to move forward with the fights which should be happening.
Frustration is growing in the MMA world due to the fact that ‘Bones’ seems reluctant to face his rightful next challenger, Aspinall, despite the Brit being the only opponent who makes sense for him. Frustration is not only growing among MMA fans, but it is also rapidly growing behind the scenes in Aspinall’s team and his dad, Andy, has expressed his own frustrations regarding Jones in a newly released interview with JNMEDIAUK.

Tom Aspinall’s Dad Advises Jon Jones to Vacate His UFC Heavyweight Title
Jones has held the heavyweight title for over two years yet has only defended it once
Team Aspinall’s frustrations regarding a potential future fight against Jon Jones for the undisputed UFC heavyweight title seem to be growing as Tom’s dad, Andy, has called for the MMA GOAT to vacate his title if he doesn’t want to fight the British interim champion. Andy spoke to JNMEDIAUK’s Jamal Niaz recently and slammed Jones’ approach to a potential fight against his son.
Andy Aspinall said the following to JNMEDIAUK:
“You are contracted to do three fights a year and I think he’s worked himself into a position where (Tom Aspinall) should fight for a belt. For me, if a guy doesn’t want to fight for the belt, he should vacate it. Tom isn’t bothered about Jones. Jon Jones is just another body in the gym, another bum in the shower.”
It may seem from the outside looking in that Tom Aspinall and his team are trying too hard to get the fight booked. but it seems that even their best efforts may not be enough to get the fight signed.

If a recent report from reliable MMA journalist Ariel Helwani is to be believed, Jon Jones is demanding six months to prepare for a fight against Tom Aspinall. If Helwani is correct, it would mean that a showdown between the heavyweights probably wouldn’t take place until September at the very earliest.
