Football never sleeps. During any of the 86400 seconds in a 24-hour day, somewhere in the world someone is doing something related to the beautiful game, whether that’s scoring a last-minute winner in a high-profile match, posting their expert take on social media or simply booting a ball against a wall with their mates.
It’s therefore impossible for any human being to keep up with everything that’s going on in the game, and it’s often those little yet most intriguing moments, like a fan’s alternative viewpoint of a penalty save, or a three-second yet incredibly telling interaction between two arch-rivals, or thread on X explaining why N’Golo Kante is the nicest man in professional sport, which make football so great.
GIVEMESPORT have created our live blog to help solve that problem, providing the best social media has to offer and the greatest football mini-stories from the last 24 hours.
September 29: Fans Convinced Arsenal Are Most ‘Chronically Online Team’
Arsenal fans have joked that they are the ‘most chronically online team’ after spotting what the players did after equalising vs Newcastle United. Mikel Merino headed in to make it 1-1 in the 84th minute, but the celebrations didn’t last long as the ball was quickly grabbed and brought back to the centre-circle.
This paid off for the Gunners as Gabriel would go on to grab a winner in the 96th minute. The scenes, however, were a contrast to what had happened against Manchester City the week before.
In that game, Gabriel Martinelli also scored a late equaliser, but many online fans criticised Arsenal for over-celebrating, instead of getting the ball to push for a winner. Having quite possibly seen the comments, the whole team were keen to get play started again as soon as possible vs the Magpies.
Spotting this, one fan wrote: “We’re the most chronically online team I swear.” Another added: “They saw the tweets.”
A third said: “Declan [Rice] definitely showed them tweets before the game.” Along those lines, another remarked: “Rice definitely saw the tweets.”
A fifth concluded: “We have the mentality now, I suppose. The media and pundits should be happy now.”
September 20: Jurgen Klopp Savages Young Man United Fan
Jurgen Klopp has gone viral after savaging a young Manchester United fan. The Red Devils were extremely poor in the 2024/25 season as they finished 15th in the Premier League table and ended the campaign without silverware. Their struggles have continued this season as they have picked up just four points from their opening four league games, while they were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Grimsby.
A video of Klopp mocking a young United fan for his side’s misfortune has now emerged on social media. The Liverpool legend can be heard saying to the youngster:
“You’ve been watching s*** football for 6 years. Wow, I’m really sorry!”
September 18: Marcus Rashford Silences St James’ Park With Stunning Strike
Marcus Rashford wasn’t the most popular man in Newcastle as Barcelona made the trip to Tyneside for a huge Champions League clash on Thursday night. The England international was relentlessly booed whenever he touched the ball on his return to the UK.
However, after a difficult first half, the Manchester United loanee harnessed that energy to put in one of his most impressive performances in a Barca shirt to date. He first opened the scoring with an impressive header, before doubling the Spanish side’s lead with an absolute rocket from range. Nick Pope had no chance.
September 7: Florian Wirtz Scores Sensational Free-Kick For Germany
Florian Wirtz may have endured a slow start to the season as a new Liverpool player, but the £116 million man has reminded everyone of the world-class ability he possesses. After suffering defeat against Slovakia in their previous World Cup qualifier, the pressure was on Germany to get back on track against Northern Ireland.
The Liverpool superstar put the game out of sight for the Irish with a sublime free-kick. Just outside the penalty area, the 22-year-old looked to put no effort into his attempt, which found the top corner of the net. It looks like Dominik Szoboszlai could have a rival for set-piece duties at Anfield.
A football match in Tanzania was stopped this week after a swarm of bees interrupted play. Footage of players from the two teams, City FC Abuja and JKU FC, were seen quickly falling to the floor and laying on the ground at Kwaraa Stadium in Babati. Other individuals in the technical area, match officials and even the camera crew did the same, in an attempt to avoid being stung.
Fans in the stands surprisingly remained seated during the chaos. talkSPORT say local outfit Afrizum suspect unusual weather patterns throughout the week may have caused the incident. However, the bees eventually moved on – thanks in part to the calm thinking of those on the pitch – and the match resumed.
September 3: Gianluigi Buffon ‘Speechless’ as 13-Year-Old Goalkeeper Hospitalised by Parent
Legendary Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has reacted with shock after a 13-year-old goalkeeper was attacked and hospitalised by a parent during a youth football game. The incident occurred during the Super Oscar youth tournament in Collegno, near Turin, when the father of an opponent hit the youngster, who was playing for GSD Volpiano Pianese.
The child has since been discharged but was hospitalised with a fractured malleolus, a bruised cheekbone, and head trauma after being punched at the end of the match against CSF Carmagnola. Speaking on the shocking events, Buffon said:
“I’m speechless… Literally stunned by what happened. Indeed, above all, disoriented, because the behaviors that are now too often repeated on or around the football pitches invite much deeper reflection than instinctive and normal outrage. We must do something truly powerful and strong, something that restores reason, respect, and humanity to the center of our lives. These barbaric and inhumane acts have deep roots in unease, a lack of education, and a total lack of self-control.
He then added: “I don’t know what the cure is, but we cannot helplessly accept such a profound cultural, social, and behavioral decline. That said, I want to send a huge hug and best wishes for a speedy recovery to my colleague, the goalkeeper, advising him to respond to violence with forgiveness, because only with such counter-trend choices can we attempt to eradicate such brutality and create a better world and environment.”
September 1: Arsenal vs Liverpool Clip Highlights Difference Between Martinelli and Eze
Arsenal were unable to come away with anything as they lost 1-0 against rivals Liverpool at Anfield over the weekend. It was a game of few opportunities for either team, but the Gunners could have perhaps made more of an impression in attack had new signing Eberechi Eze been used off the bench a little sooner.
Mikel Arteta went with Gabriel Martinelli from the start, but the Brazilian had a frustrating afternoon, failing to carve out any real opportunities for either himself or any teammates. He was replaced by Eze in the 70th minute, with the Englishman looking for more lively.
One clip in particular sums up the difference in confidence between the pair as Eze delightfully skipped past Dominik Szoboszlai, while Martinelli was thwarted by the makeshift right-back.
August 31: Joao Neves Scores Incredible Hat-Trick For PSG
Paris Saint-Germain continued their perfect start to the Ligue 1 season with their third win in as many games, beating Toulouse 6-3 in a thrilling encounter. The star of the show was very much Joao Neves.
Indeed, the central midfielder bagged not one, not two, but three goals as he went home with the match ball. It’s rare enough for a non-forward to score a hat-trick in football, but the quality of his three strikes was also eye-catching.
Incredibly, Neves bagged two bicycle kicks, as well as blasting home a thunderous top corner strike from distance to seal his hat-trick. As such, fans online have been blown away by the collection of goals.
One wrote: “This is the greatest hat-trick in the history of footy. 2x bicycle kicks 1x outside the box banger João Neves, you are a phenomenon.” Another said: João Neves has just scored one of the greatest hat-trick in Ligue 1 history. A third added: “Joao Neves has just scored the best hat-trick of all time as a midfielder.”
