Speaking to Sport Bild, Thomas Müller has confirmed that he will continue his playing career until at least 2025 amid speculation on his future with his contract expiring in the summer.
When asked on clarification on his future, Müller said: “I definitely want to play for another year beyond 2024. At least that’s my plan. I’m still enjoying being on the pitch, I hope that’s showing”
Initial talks between Müller and Bayern are expected to be scheduled for the coming weeks but a contract extension is not 100% certain. The 34-year-old is currently earning €20m a year making him one of the top earners at Bayern and with Müller spending more time on the bench becomes increasingly difficult to justify paying such a salary regardless of what the 34-year-old has achieved in his career with Bayern.
If Müller wishes to continue playing at Champions League level a move away from Bayern is not out of the question, while a move within the Bundesliga is also not ruled out. However, to facilitate such a move Müller would have to take a significant pay cut to his current salary.
