Thierry Henry has given his reaction to Mohamed Salah’s sensational interview after Leeds 3-3 Liverpool this weekend and his comments have gone viral on social media.
Liverpool have been in very poor form of late, and Salah has been one of many players that have struggled. In an attempt to try and turn their form around, Arne Slot has decided that the Egyptian is no longer a guaranteed starter.
Salah was named on the bench for the third consecutive match against Leeds and he remained on the sidelines for the entirety of the game as it ended in a 3-3 draw.
And after the match, Salah gave one of the most eye-opening post-match interviews in recent memory as he made his frustrations at the club clear. The Egyptian said that the club have broken promises about game-time, accused someone at the club of throwing him under the bus and said his relationship with Slot has been broken.
Thierry Henry Gives Take on Mo Salah
A multitude of high-profile names in the football world have given their take on Salah’s situation and now Arsenal legend Henry has spoken out. The Frenchman appeared on CBS Sports on Tuesday evening where he gave his honest thoughts about Salah and his interview.
Henry started by stating that Salah did not make the right decision to make his frustrations public and bought up how he reacted when he found himself in a similar situation.
“Nobody’s talking about what Mo Salah has achieved in the game. We’re talking about moments in time that I think he got wrong. You do not talk about your personal situation openly when your team is struggling. You do it in the dressing room. I’ve done it. I went to the dressing room and smashed everything in. I went to the office of the boss and complained about stuff.
“When I was at Barcelona, I went away with the team,” Henry said. “They put me in the stands. Did you hear me talking about it? No … We won the treble the year before but I wasn’t performing so if you’re not performing, you put yourself in the situation where you leave the door open for someone to [get] in.
“I traveled, we arrived at the stadium, I’m in the stands. Am I going to make a fuss about it? Am I going to make it about myself? Am I going to talk to the press after? I have achieved stuff in the game but team first. If I had to say something – and by the way, I said it. I said it to [manager] Pep [Guardiola], what I thought about what was happening, but not publicly.”
Henry went on to praise Salah and all he has achieved but reiterated that he has gone about the situation in the wrong way.
He added: “You need to protect your team at all costs, all the time. I can understand you want to speak. I can understand the frustration. I don’t [understand] the how and the when. That doesn’t make sense to me. That was wrong and when people talk about relationships, the only relationship a coach wants to have with a player is for him to perform. If you’re not performing, then your position is in danger.
“It’s not [your] due to have a position, especially at a club like Liverpool … It has nothing to do, again, with what he has achieved. I repeat – I love Mo Salah. I love what he has done in the game. That’s a different topic. There, that’s not how you go about stuff.”
Henry is being praised for his take on the situation. One fan said: ‘Henry is just speaking facts here, a gentleman on and off the pitch. Some “legends” need to learn from this.”
‘Thierry Henry explaining it clear and simple for everyone to understand and HE IS 1000% spot on!’, one fan wrote, while another said: ‘He’s absolutely correct and I agree with him. This is the kind of critiques we want in football. Objective and unbiased.”
What Next For Liverpool and Salah
Salah did not travel to Italy for Liverpool’s Champions League clash against Inter Milan. Liverpool went on to win the match 1-0 thanks to Dominik Szoboszlai’s late penalty.
Liverpool are next in action on Saturday when they welcome Brighton to Anfield for their Premier League clash. It remains to be seen whether Salah will feature. It will his last game for the club before linking up with Egypt for their Africa Cup of Nations campaign.
