Barcelona sporting director Deco has on Tuesday provided his take on the clubβs controversially disallowed goal against Real Sociedad.
A bizarre VAR call of course sparked widespread chatter at Anoeta this past Sunday night.
This came after what looked set to be a Robert Lewandowski Barcelona opener was ruled out for offside.
Ensuing images of the incident, however, saw it widely concluded that those in charge of checking the goal mistook the foot of Sociedad defender Nayef Aguerd for that of Lewandowski, therefore making an incorrect offside call.
The decision ultimately cost Barcelona dear, on their way to an eventual 1-0 defeat at the hands of Real Sociedad.
Speaking during an interview with Mundo Deportivo on Tuesday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of the weekendβs VAR drama was put to the aforementioned Deco.
Specifically, the Blaugrana chief was asked if he and the Camp Nou brass intend to demand an explanation from the CTA (The Technical Committee of Referees for the RFEF).
And, in his response, Deco went on to explain:
βThis is not going to fix what happened in the match. We donβt know what would have happened. Maybe itβs 0-1 and the way Real were playing they make it 2-1 or we score 2-2. The truth is that it is a goal that was disallowed and that they say incorrectly. But from here, football must evolve, if not, we are lost. If it is a semi-automatic issue that in the end is useless, then we return to the other system. Those who are in charge have something to tell us. We donβt say it because BarΓ§a have been harmed, but to improve.β
