kicker reports that there are three scenarios when it comes to the future of 1.FC Köln midfielder Eric Martel.
A decision is expected soon when it comes to the Germany under-21 captain’s future in the Domstadt as the 23-year-old’s contract at the club expires next summer.
With his future still up in the air, there are several scenarios surrounding his future.
The first scenario is that Martel leaves the club this summer. Köln could demand around €4m for the midfielder, but has yet to receive sufficient offers from any club. The only problem is whether Köln see any benefit in selling Martel if they cannot find a replacement.
This leads to scenario two, where Martel stays at Effzeh for the upcoming season, helps to try and keep them in the league and then leaves next summer on a free transfer.
The final scenario is that Martel signs a contract extension in the Domstadt.
Despite gaining promotion, Köln have already lost Tim Lemperle, are on the verge of losing Max Finkgräfe, while the future of striker Damion Downs is also up in the air after recently relegated Southampton continue to show interest in the USA international.
