Luis Enrique will announce Spain’s squad for their upcoming games in the Nations League against Switzerland and Portugal on Friday at 11.30am local time.
As noted by Mundo Deportivo, the national team coach will find it tricky to decide which forwards to call up.
Regulars from Luis Enrique’s time at the helm of Spain, such as Mikel Oyarzabal, Gerard Moreno and Dani Olmo, will not be available due to injuries.
Raúl de Tomás, who received his first call-up in 2021 and scored 17 goals in La Liga last season, will not be able to play for Rayo Vallecano until January 2023 as he was registered after the closing of the transfer window. While he would still be available to play for Spain, he may lack match fitness as he hasn’t played in a competitive match since last spring.
Ferran Torres, Álvaro Morata, Pablo Sarabia and Ansu Fati will most likely be called up as they play regularly in Europe’s top clubs.
It will be interesting to see whether Luis Enrique will opt to call up Borja Iglesias and Iago Aspas. Even though both of them play for less prestigious teams, they are the Spanish strikers with the most goals in 2022.
