Nathan Tella scored the winner for Bayer Leverkusen against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night, leading his side to a 1-0 away win at the Allianz Arena and a place in the DFB-Pokal quarter-finals.
Speaking in a post-match interview, the 25-year-old reacted to the goal and revealed what Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso told him before bringing him on as a substitute in the second half.
“It was a great cross from [Alejandro] Grimaldo – and I’m happy with my goal. But it’s more important that the team won. We played well,” said Tella.
“The coach wanted me to make runs in behind – and today I had the chance and scored,” he added.
Tella came on after 61 minutes as a replacement for Patrik Schick, who picked up an injury.
