Felix Arnold reports that VfB Stuttgart attacker Deniz Undav may have suffered a serious medial ligament tear that will keep him out of action for up to two months. Undav had to be subbed off early in his Bundesliga side’s 1-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach yesterday. An official diagnosis from Stuttgart is still pending.
After a rather disappointing 2024/25 campaign, Undav held high hopes that he would be able to regain his form this year and potentially return to the German national team. Stuttgart’s recent loss of Nick Woltemade to the Premier League rendered Undav an immensely important component in head coach Sebastian Hoeneß’ team.
Arnold writes that the Stuttgart front office is currently scrambling to procure a replacement for the 29-year-old before the transfer window closes tomorrow. Stuttgart are expected to finalize a deal for Algerian attacker Badredine Bouanani – who can work in Undav’s deep-lying ten role – today.
Other professionals on the Stuttgart squad who can fill in for Undav at the central position include Chris Führich and newly re-acquired Portuguese attacker Tiago Tomas. The loss of Undav still stings in any case and it’s likely that another player will be brought in.
